When everyone is busy in ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup, one of the daughters of our country has made us proud at the world university games.

Dutee Chand became the first Indian woman athlete to clinch a gold at the world university games in Naples, Italy. She made us proud everytime and yet again by becoming the first Indian woman to won a gold medal at the world university games she has made us very proud. She has always been an inspiration for young generation.

Dutee Chand is an Indian professional sprinter and current national champion in the women’s 100 meter  event. Chand was born on 3rd February 1996 in the Jajpur district of Orissa. She belongs to a poor family of weavers of Orissa. Her source of inspiration is her older sister Saraswati Chand who was an athlete at the state level. She took admission in the KIIT University to study law and now currently working as an executive officer in the state PSU The Odisha Mining Corporation.

Dutee Chand has many achievements to her name. She became the national champion in the under-18 category in 2012, when she clocked 11.8 seconds in the 100 metres event. Chand also won the Bronze medal in the women’s 200 metres event at the 2013 asian athletics championship at Pune, India. In the same year she became the national champion in 100 and 200 metres event.
